Making your Shopify store multilingual is now easier than ever. This guide will walk you through setting up the MultiLipi Translation Script on your Shopify store in just a few steps — giving your customers a seamless language-switching experience backed by SEO-optimized AI translation.

Prerequisites

  • A MultiLipi account with a valid API key.
  • Access to your Shopify store’s admin panel.
  • Basic understanding of Shopify's theme editing panel (no coding required).

 Step 1: Open Theme Editor

  1. Log in to your Shopify Admin Panel.

  2. In the left-hand menu, go to Online Store > Themes.

  3. On your current theme, click Customize.

Step 2: Edit Theme Code

  1. In the theme editor, click the three dots (⋮) on the top-left corner.

  2. Select Edit Code from the dropdown.
  3. Under the Layout section in the left sidebar, open the file named theme.liquid.

Step 3: Add the MultiLipi Translation Script

  1. Inside theme.liquid, scroll until you find the </head> tag.

  2. Just above the </head> tag, paste the following script:

<script src="https://multilipistorage.blob.core.windows.net/static/js/page_translations.js" key="YOUR_API_KEY_HERE"></script>

  1. Replace YOUR_API_KEY_HERE with your actual API key from the MultiLipi Dashboard.
  2. Click Save at the top-right corner.

Step 4: Test and Verify Integration

  1. Refresh your website.

  2. You should now see the language switcher appear on the bottom-left of your store.

  3. Try switching the language — your website should automatically translate into the selected language.

If you don’t see the button or if it doesn’t work:

  • Ensure the script is placed correctly above the </head> tag.
  • Clear your Shopify cache or preview in an incognito window.
  • Make sure no other translation plugin is active.

Step 5: Manual Edits and SEO Enhancements (Optional)

Once the MultiLipi script is working:

  • You can manually improve translations inside your MultiLipi dashboard.
  • Define glossary rules to preserve brand consistency.
  • Enable multilingual SEO settings like hreflang tags, language-specific URLs, and translated meta tags.
